Earlier this month, a small number of conference organisers, media and event planners joined us as we explored some Hobart and Southern Tasmania's event venues and experiences...

This was the first of three familiarisation (famil) programs scheduled over the coming weeks that showcases how unique Tasmanian events can create space for creative and innovative delegate outputs. In a phrase, how your next Tasmanian events will help your delegates see clear here.

  • The Tasman, A Luxury Collection Hotel – Listed in the global ranking of the World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024, The Tasman is an elegant heritage reconstruction that brings together three eras of design: Georgian, Art Deco, and Contemporary.
  • Uprising Glass – Uprising Glassware crafts unique and innovative gifts, combining Tasmania’s rugged natural beauty with its world class fine drinks scene. Their wine and whisky glasses are made in the shape of iconic Tasmanian landmarks such as Cradle Mountain or the Bay of Fires. Those attended our Famil were presented with one of these truly special mementos.
  • Federation Chocolate – Federation Artisan Chocolate has been an iconic Tasmanian chocolate brand for over 30 years. It is proudly Tasmanian owned and operated, and all their chocolate is handmade in Tasmania. Moulded chocolates and truffles using genuine ingredients from bean-to-bar are made from sustainable and ethical sources. Guests were given sample of handmade iconic Tasmanian Federation Artisan Chocolates as a parting gift.

Day One

Experiences:

Meals and off-site catering:

  • Theatre Royal – a dramatic lunch experience on stage showcasing the very best of Tasmanian sourced produced in partnership with BW Events.
  • Aloft – Located on the top floor of the Brooke Street Pier, their passion is all about utilising Tasmanian produce while giving it a pan-Asian twist of flavour.
  • Restaurant Maria – Overlooking the beautiful harbour, everyone enjoyed a premium Mediterranean-inspired dining experience that celebrated local and Australian sourced produce.

Venue inspections:

  • Theatre Royal and Hedburg – These two venues connect the old and the new with the Theatre Royal being an iconic piece of Tasmania’s history (famously being recognised as the oldest working theatre in the country) and the Hedberg – a state-of-the-art venue that represents one of the state’s most ambitious cultural and art infrastructure projects. Together they both offer a unique and creative space for business events.
  • Crowne Plaza – A 241-room hotel in central Hobart that features a range of facilities including bars, restaurants 7 conferencing space, accommodation for up to 600 delegates and the club lounge AURA located on the top level with views of the city.
  • Waterline Brooke Street Pier – Nestled at the end of Brooke Street Pier, the venue caters for up to 180 delegates inside the restaurant and up to 500 delegates when utilising the Berthing Dock. This was the first of three venues situated on the Brooke Street Pier visited with the other two mentioned prior (Aloft and Restaurant Maria) making it a location with everything you need to create an unforgettable evening.

Day Two

Experiences:

  • The Agrarian Kitchen Cooking School Experience – a rewarding experience that involves foraging, harvesting, cooking, learning, eating and drinking. The cooking classes are all about making food from its base elements, including the best, freshly harvested produce from their on-site garden. It takes place in a space that has been beautifully renovated to preserve the history of the building, with ample space for up to 24 students.

Meals and off-site catering:

  • Peppina – At Peppina, Tasmanian local chef Massimo Mele replicates the charm of his nonna’s kitchen through Italian-inspired dishes crafted with seasonal ingredients sourced from area farmers. For this meal our group was treated to the “Tutti a Tavola” experience.
  • Cancer Council Tasmania – Messaging from BET’s charity partner, The Cancer Council Tasmania was integrated into the dinner with name place cards for each guests along with a pin supporting Daffodil Day included – proceeds donated from BET to the Cancer Council.

Venue inspections:

  • Wrest Point – Set on the River Derwent, Wrest Point boasts panoramic water views and can host events of all sizes from the smallest board meeting to a 1650-seat theatre style event, and everything in between. 3-levels of accommodation means that the needs of all delegates are met, and their private jetty gives them the option to arrive in style via boat.
  • Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart – A site where you will find uninterrupted views of the Hobart waterfront while remaining walking distance to the CBD. Also included is the Hobart Convention & Exhibition Centre (HCEC). A conference & events venue with facilities that include a plenary for 1,100 delegates, 11 flexible function spaces and space for 125 trade exhibition booths, HCEC is the ideal venue for events, be it association, corporate or franchise based.

Day Three

Experiences:

  • Pennicott Wilderness Journeys – Providing a scenic cruise gliding by picturesque coastline that merges into ancient rainforest, and a few sightings of some international guests visiting from New Zealand (Long-nosed fur seal, also known as New Zealand Fur Seals) this experience connected our guests with their next experience…
  • The Kuuma, Nature Sauna – An experience where our group was able to rejuvenate on Kuuma’s custom-designed pontoon boat built for sauna cruising. This was something that really embodies the Tasmanian culture, demonstrating how down here you will be able to enjoy an environment where you can slow down, and have the chance to take in everything around you – the perfect activity after such a busy three days.

Meals and off-site catering:

  • Frogmore Creek Cambridge – Floor-to-ceiling windows provide stunning views across the surrounding waterways and valley here, with the Barrel Room (our venue for the day’s lunch) providing the perfect year-round venue. The lunch was a 2-course choose-your-own culinary experience drawing influence from the land, sea and gardens of Tasmania, whilst premium cool-climate wines were offered from the Frogmore Creek and 42 Degrees South labels.
