Cancer Council Tasmania is the leading organisation for cancer control in Tasmania. Their vision is a cancer-free future, and mission is to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer on all Tasmanians.
With almost 10 Tasmanians diagnosed with cancer each day, Cancer Council Tasmania is the only cancer organisation in Tasmania with a focus on all Tasmanians and all cancers. This includes the provision of cancer support services for those navigating their cancer treatment, to their state-widetransport2treatment services, and the delivery of cancer prevention education programs across the state.
Through their work, they play a vital role in reducing the incidence and impact of cancer on Tasmanians through their policy and advocacy work, and by investing funds into world class cancer research being undertaken here in Tasmania.
As a member of the national Federation of Cancer Councils, they have access to Australia’s leading network of cancer charities. However, as an independent organisation are required to fundraise for themselves and are reliant on the generosity of the Tasmanian community who raise more than $4 million annually through fundraising, partnerships, bequests and donations enable them to continue delivering their programs and services free of charge to the community.
As Business Events Tasmania’s Charity Partner, event organisers have the opportunity to integrate Cancer Council Tasmania messaging or activities into their events / conferences.
Do
There are six (6) event / conference partnership options available with each option available in return for a negotiated donation to the Cancer Council Tasmania:
Tailored team building and information awareness activity – A bespoke team building and information awareness activity. The cost and structure of these activities would be negotiated with the event coordinator, and the activity would be dependent on numbers, with options including:
- Participation in a personalised local walking tour, with Cancer Council Tasmania volunteer walking group leaders, and supportive care staff. Walking tours would provide a gentle and interactive experience that will educate attendees on how to reduce their risk of cancer and engage with Tasmanians willing to share insights into their cancer journeys and how Cancer Council Tasmania’s service have supported them. Maximum number per walking group is 25 for 90 minutes. Multiple walking groups can be arranged in negotiation and with advanced notice (and would be weather dependent and can include a tour of our beautiful cancer support centre upon agreement).
- Participation in a personalised team building Daffodil heart craft activity. Incorporating a tailored presentation by Cancer Council Tasmania staff / volunteers with lived experience, attendees would also be involved in making yellow Daffodil hearts that Cancer Council Tasmania provides to Tasmanians impacted by cancer (e.g. placed into care packs, distributed in hospitals for Tasmanians navigating their cancer diagnosis). These hearts play an important part in connecting and lifting the spirits of Tasmanians navigating a cancer diagnosis, with attendees also encouraged to personalise and / or take hearts home with them. This is a mindful and engaging activity that can be undertaken at the event location or at the Cancer Council Tasmania cancer supportive care centres (Hobart or Launceston). Numbers are not capped (if undertaken at the event location) and capped at 50 if undertaken at Cancer Council Tasmania sites. Multiple and staggered sessions could be arranged in negotiation.
Tailored event presentations – A tailored presentation to attendees on an agreed topic focused on increasing awareness and providing information on how to reduce the risk of cancer / the work of Cancer Council Tasmania state-wide. These sessions can also provide information on how attendees can talk with other, or those they love, about cancer diagnoses and how best to provide emotional support.
Speaker / Delegate Gifts – incorporating donations to Cancer Council Tasmania as gifts to speakers / delegates. For example, conferences and events can generally invest between $50 – $100 per key-note speaker gift (sometimes more). In lieu of physical gift boxes, bottles of wine etc. donations can be made to Cancer Council Tasmania.
Fundraising Opportunities – Multiple fundraising opportunities exist for your event, including:
- incorporating fundraising contributions to each event / conference ticket of a minimum of $5 – $10 per attendee.
- incorporating on-site event information / fundraising options (e.g. QR codes, information materials).
- incorporating fundraisers into the event / conference packages. For example, adding a surcharge onto catering prices for event and conference morning / afternoon teas to raise funds for Cancer Council Tasmania aligned to the popular Australia’s Biggest Morning Team fundraiser
