Variety Tasmania provides a range of charity initiatives that can enhance local communities and raise funds while providing lasting delegates experiences, building event legacies and sparking innovative, new ideas. Here are just a few ways your delegates can get involved:
Bikes4Kids
Time investment: 1.5 hours – Full Day
Attendees: 2 – 100
The Program: The Variety Bikes4Kids Program aims to give the gift of freedom, independence, exercise and joy to children who are sick or have additional needs, or those who have never been fortunate enough to have a bike of their own. Cycling has numerous benefits for kids, both physically and mentally. It promotes physical activity and healthy habits, whilst improving mental wellbeing and social skills. Variety Tasmania sources partners to fund and/or build bikes that can be gifted to Tasmanian school children in need of one.
The detail: Variety Tasmania will provide a brief introduction to their programs to assist Tasmanian kids, along with a bike build instructional video/overview, required tools and personnel to assist on the day. Additional team building activities can be weaved through including icebreakers, issues debates, scavenger hunt for bike decorations and more.
Investment: $270 per bike including helmet and lock plus build time. We recommend two attendees per bike minimum.
Community Projects
Time investment: Flexible
Attendees: Flexible
The detail: Variety Tasmania and Business Events Tasmania can partner with you to create bespoke community projects to uplift the Tasmanian community and your delegate’s sense of purpose. Examples include a recent project that involved 260 delegates working with Variety to re-think a local, unused school space and create and enchanting and educational space for the entire community to enjoy.
Here’s a look at how the 1400m2 space was before, during and after the project was completed in just one day:
Variety TasBash
Time investment: Half or full day experiences
Attendees: Up to 100 delegates
The Program: The Variety Bash is the largest and longest running Australian charity motoring event and here in Tassie, it’s affectionately known as ‘TasBash’. It’s not a race or a rally, it’s a fun and social motoring event that brings together like-minded teams to have fun and raise money for underprivileged Tasmanian kids. In the words of the original “Basher” Dick Smith, it’s ‘a drive in the outback with a few mates’.
The detail: Create your own mini-TasBash and compete in teams whilst exploring the road less travelled with Variety Tasmania. You will need to arrange the delegates into teams, car rental and car decorating if you wish (it’s a big part of the real thing!). Variety will create a bespoke itinerary based on your available time and group size, and incorporate fun stops, great local produce and team games along the way. You can depart from and arrive to anywhere you wish and Variety will award trophies to the best teams at the end of the experience.
If you would like to incorporate fundraising or workplace giving into the day Variety has the potential to work with school and community groups to arrange a presentation to recipients of funding or equipment granted.
Volunteering Opportunities
Time investment: Flexible
Attendees: Flexible
The detail: Variety Tasmania has a full calendar of events throughout the year and support through local conferences is always welcomed. Here are just a few initiatives and how delegates can support the community by getting involved:
- The Variety Monster Bookfair Book Sorting, where every year Variety Tasmania and Shiploads join forces to collect unused books, puzzles, games, CD’s, DVD’s, Vinyl and more.
- This then leads on to the Variety Monster Bookfair Book Event, where the pre-sorted donated books are delivered on pallets to PW1 ready for unloading and presented for sale at the Monster Bookfair. Numerous kids’ activity stations are also set up ahead of the weekend.
- Variety Kids Sports Days – Assist the team with set-up, welcoming kids/schools, assisting with sport activities, and pack-down, followed by a late lunch (supplied) and certificate presentation. The focus for this is event is placed on providing sporting pathways for students living with a disability. It is aimed at kids aged 5-18, with multisport try days allowing all kids to have a go in a fun and supportive environment with qualified, passionate coaches on hand. The goal is to increase awareness around the opportunities for kids regardless of their ability.
