Board Director Vacancy
This is your opportunity to make an impact on the tourism industry in Lutruwita/Tasmania. Business events offer unique opportunities to grow the knowledge economy of the state, create new connections among key industry leaders and provide a platform for the world to witness the groundbreaking work being done across our state. We are seeking individuals talented in Government Relations and/or Corporate Governance, to join our board of directors.
Business Events Tasmania (BET) is a specialist bidding organisation responsible for marketing our island home as a business event destination. BET brings 51,733 visitors to the state, resulting in a direct total spend of $199 million from business event delegates and creating a positive impact for the sector and the wider community.
For over 30 years, we have taken a lead role in promoting Lutruwita/Tasmania as a business event destination to national and international associations, corporate organisations and event planners. Conference connections underpin knowledge creation and in exchange, attract global talent, encourage trade and investment, nurture collaboration, foster innovation and provide social benefits. And so, backed by strong local relationships, we also work in collaboration with the Tasmanian State Government to attract and support strategically valuable business to the Tasmanian economy.
Board of Directors
The Tasmanian Convention Bureau trading as Business Events Tasmania is a public company limited by guarantee, governed by a board of nine (9) Directors which is responsible for the overall control and management of the Company and all its affairs.
The Board composition is made up of four (4) elected members, one (1) Tourism Tasmania representative and four (4) appointed members. Members meet six (6) times per year and join for a two (2) year term.
The position
We have one (1) vacancy within our appointed members. The Board meetings are held bi-monthly across the State and can be attended virtually. We are seeking a director that has the following experience in:
Government Relations or
Corporate Governance.
You will bring demonstrated experience in several of the following areas:
- Government relations with a strong understanding of the Tasmanian political landscape preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of corporate governance and statutory compliance requirements, with previous experience in the not-for-profit sector preferred.
- Ability to think strategically, and high-level decision-making.
- Ability to read and comprehend corporate accounts, financial materials and financial reporting requirements.
- Appropriate understanding of legal concepts and frameworks applicable to both the role of director and the industries in which the company operates.
