The Tailrace Centre is the perfect hub for corporate and social events, ideally suited for medium to large conferences wanting to get away from inner city distractions.

With 5 distinctive, spacious and naturally lit event spaces they can accommodate everything from meetings and conferences to gala dinners, networking events and training sessions.

The function rooms include their gala room that comfortably fits 35 round tables and with their flexible moving walls they can extend to fit 45 round tables. Likewise with theatre seating they can accommodate 600 people or up to 650 with their flexible moving walls.

With a dual stage, this room is perfect for a conference or gala.

A unique feature of Tailrace is that 4 of the 5 function rooms have retractable walls allowing for flexibility of configuration and people movement.

The Centre also features unique break out spaces such as Jude’s Café, the deck, courtyard, and foyer.

Tailrace is a versatile space for trade shows collaborating with Weeding’s and Salter’s hire, they can comfortably accommodate up to 40 booths in their gala room.

Sustainability Initiatives:

The Tailrace Centre opened its doors in 2007 and since then has been committed to social sustainability as well as environmental sustainability.

Social sustainability:

For 18 years Tailrace Centre has been engaged in social sustainability, with its commitment to finding solutions to the wellbeing crisis experienced by young people. Tailrace creates and participates in programs for youth, in which your business will contribute.

In 2024 they had:

• 308 youth with meaningful contact,
• 3746 hours of face-to-face delivery
• $581.00 average cost per youth meaningfully contacted
• 97 youth with documented story of change

Environmental Sustainability

• Transitioning the whole centre to LED lighting with a job completion date of 2027
• 222 Solar panels have been installed, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
• It’s estimated that there will be $38,000 in savings per year.
• 206.41 tons of CO2 emissions have been saved since installation
• Only one tree was cut down during the construction of the Tailrace Centre and 120 trees have been planted since.
• Hot water loop insulation, saving $11,711 per year, and reducing CO2 emissions by 4,200kg per year.
• Their roof collects water and recycles it into our floor heating

Eat & Drink

A welcome function or a gala dinner is perfectly suited in their main Gala room. Cocktail events are beautifully suited in Jude’s and the Tamar room with panoramic views of our mountain and river. In autumn the Willow Lawn makes the best outdoor venue for any function, dinner or cocktail event with fire pits, games, and music.

Their onsite café, Jude’s café, can provide your delegates with barista coffees, snacks, and light meals.

Event Services

Tailrace Centre can provide offsite food and beverage catering solutions to your event, from small meeting catering to a large cocktail events or sit-down occasions. The Tailrace team can work collaboratively with your venue of choice to bring you the best of event dining using Tasmanian produce and their dedicated team of hospitality staff.
