Irene is the Research Director of the Blue Economy CRC, an industry-driven research and development initiative to enhance the development of Australia’s blue economy through the delivery of world-class, industry focused research into integrated seafood and renewable energy production systems. In addition to this, Irene leads Tidal Energy – an Australian Renewable Energy Agency funded project for assessing resource and feasibility to Australia’s future energy mix – and is a professor at the specialist institute of the University of Tasmania, Australian Maritime College (AMC).
Irene has a rich history for being involved in conferences and events. Irene was part of the Australian and New Zealand delegation at the Nutreco and Skretting’s AquaVision conference. This conference was dedicated to sharing the vision for sustainability and innovation for production onshore and in exposed offshore locations, navigating the issues of climate change and energy security, and innovation to help shape the future of global aquaculture.
