Mewstone Wines is a local family-owned winery located approximately 40 minutes from Hobart on the banks of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel in the farmland of Flowerpot, Southern Tasmania.

The winemaking journey started back in 2011, when Brothers Matthew and Jonathan Hughes established the Mewstone Vineyard, and consequently, they’ve won awards for Best Winery of the Year [2018], Young Winemaker of the year [2019], Best Tasting Experience, Top Wineries Australia [2021 and 2022] and many more.

Mewstone wines are made solely from fruit grown in their own vineyard. These wines are intended to represent place and season. The winemaking is aimed at harnessing the strengths of our site.

Another brand in the Mewstone wine family is Hughes and Hughes, these wines seek to champion varietal expression to add texture and complexity but not at the expense of enjoyment and purity. The winemaking can be a little experimental and playful. Each year they find parcels of fruit from our growers that represent something a bit special.

Do

Mewstone’s Cellar Door and Tasting Room is open 11 am – 4 pm Friday to Sunday. Guided tastings are $25pp including wines from both our Mewstone and Hughes & Hughes ranges. Locally sourced seasonal platters are also available, as is wine for take-home orders or for delivery. To ensure our intimate tasting space is never crowded, it is highly recommended to book in advance.

Conference

Mewstone’s Vineyard and Cellar Door can be hired out exclusively for private experiences. Their cellar door can cater for small groups under 50. Owners Matt and Jonathan who is head winemaker can take your group through a private tour of the vineyard and tasting.
