When Maurice was 12 years old, he and his fellow classmates were taken on an excursion that would spark a dream for Maurice that would remain lit until this very day. The destination for this excursion was a local chocolate factory. His short visit here filled the young man with wonder and desire to one day work at a chocolate factory and craft his very own. 

However, the journey to achieving this wouldn’t be a short one. Following on from his time at school Maurice worked in a variety of professions, including electronics, radio, computer programming and health. It wasn’t until he met Helen – his future wife – that this dream started to become a reality. Together in 2014 they took the leap of faith, leaving their previous jobs behind in order to pursue this passion that had stayed with Maurice since he was twelve, and bought Federation Artisan Chocolate. 

Since then, the two have evolved the business to become involved in the entire making process of the chocolates, right through from the growing of the cacao beans to the making of their bars. They have worked tirelessly to hand select ethical and sustainable cacao growers. 

In 2019 they opened a Hobart City CBD Artisan chocolate factory, chocolate shop and café. This was so that they might share their chocolate making philosophy with more people by providing meet the maker and chocolate making masterclasses, an experience perfect for conference groups and corporate travellers.
