Business Events Tasmania (BET) Sustainability Commitment

At Business Events Tasmania, we are dedicated to enhancing the sustainability of our operations, supporting our local community, and showcasing Tasmania as a responsible, eco-conscious destination for business events. Our team is committed to making a positive impact on the environment, economy, and cultural heritage of Lutruwita/Tasmania.
We will do this by our five key focus pillars:
  1. Governance (Management): Establish transparent, accountable sustainability practices across BET operations.
  2. Socio-Economic: Enhance the local economy and community by supporting Tasmanian businesses and fostering inclusivity in events.
  3. Cultural: Respect and promote Tasmania’s unique cultural heritage, including Indigenous traditions, in all events.
  4. Environment: Minimise environmental impact by reducing emissions, waste, and resource use.
  5. Monitoring and Reporting: Track and report on sustainability metrics for each focus area quarterly.
We intend to keep our actions manageable and achievable so we ensure the success of our plan. As we embed each action across our business, we will review our strategy and actions to ensure growth in our impact.
To us, this is about continuous improvement and we will communicate our journey, our challenges and our victories with our stakeholders. Through these pillars, we aim to leave a lasting positive impact on our community and environment, while positioning Tasmania as a leading destination for sustainable business events.

 Implement Structured Sustainability Management Practices within BET Foster local economic benefits by supporting Tasmanian suppliers and community-driven initiatives. Members

 Provide guidance and incentives for BET members to adopt sustainable practices in event planning and operations. Encourage BET members to support local suppliers and implement socially inclusive practices. Educate members on inclusive and culturally respectful practices in event planning. Support members in reducing the environmental impact of their events by providing resources and education on sustainable practices.

Destination

 Align BET’s strategy with Tasmania’s long-term sustainable tourism goals to reinforce the state’s commitment to responsible tourism. Position Tasmania’s business events as socially impactful by fostering connections between event attendees and local communities. Showcase Tasmania’s rich cultural heritage to create meaningful, culturally respectful event experiences. Strengthen Tasmania’s image as an eco-conscious destination, driving global interest in sustainable business events.
