Creative Spaces: Hamlet
Recently at BET we have been highlighting Tasmania’s ability to creatively achieve the impossible when it comes to business events - because down here, if you can imagine it then we can find a way to make it a reality.
Complementing the creative spaces where these events take place are our local suppliers and service providers. Organisations such as Hamlet, who not only supply your event with amazing Tasmanian food but are also creating life-changing opportunities for those in our local community.
A few months ago, we featured Hamlet in a previous story highlighting their offerings and mission (Find the story here).
Since then, the Hobart-based social enterprise Hamlet has launched a second commercial kitchen space, increasing its capacity to deliver work readiness programs to people facing barriers to employment. Hamlet has worked with the community and industry to create inclusive workplaces, by providing training in their café, catering and condiments businesses. The enterprise has already celebrated an incredible 40,000 hours of training, and founder Emily Briffa says that the new kitchen will increase Hamlet’s intake numbers by 94 percent over the next three years.
“We are immensely proud to have achieved 40,000 hours of training but our mission is far from over,” she says. “We believe that meaningful employment is a fundamental right, and we’re dedicated to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for those who need it most.”
The new kitchen includes preparation stations that cater to those with accessibility requirements, and has been situated in a quieter space than the original kitchen. Its major focus will be the production of Hamlet’s catering menu, which offers a range of options that can be customised for group and corporate events. The menu includes sweet and savoury pastries, wraps and sandwiches, and fresh salads using locally-sourced seasonal ingredients.
“We’re really proud of our catering offering, and excited to be able to expand our ability to look after Hobart’s corporate and social events,” Emily says. “Choosing Hamlet catering means you’ll have a delicious spread, and also helps to create life-changing opportunities and powerful change in the community.”
