Members Supporting Members: Jude’s Village by the Tailrace Centre

One of Lutruwita / Tasmania's greatest strengths is our strong culture of collaboration. Building on this, we're launching a new series designed to highlight opportunities for you—our members—to connect and support each other. Through these collaborations, we aim to enhance your individual offerings while also contributing to broader benefits across Lutruwita / Tasmania.

The first collaboration opportunity we’re highlighting is the Tailrace Centre’s Jude’s Village initiative.

For the past 18 years, the Tailrace Centre has been engaged in social sustainability, particularly in response to the growing youth wellbeing crisis. This urgent issue is underscored by alarming statistics:

  • 75% of mental health problems emerge before the age of 25
  • 1 in 4 young Australians will experience a mental health issue
  • 1 in 40 will attempt suicide

In response, the Tailrace Centre established Jude’s Village—a fundraising and program platform focused on supporting young people.

A group of young people stand in a circle on a grassy field, raising their hands in unison as part of a group activity. Most are wearing purple wristbands, and one person holds a light purple flag. Trees and shrubs form a natural background, suggesting an outdoor camp or team-building event.

Through Jude’s Village, they offer a range of initiatives including school programs, sports chaplaincy, youth groups, camps, and employment pathways. Each of these streams is designed to foster connection, belonging, friendship, purpose, and justice for young people. And at the heart of this impact is a passionate fundraising community.

One powerful example is their International Women’s Day fundraiser. Here they collaborated with Natasha Nieuwhof of Lily Flowers, hosting a beautiful floral event that not only raised awareness of the youth wellbeing crisis but also offered women a way to express hope and raise funds to support their girls youth programs.

A busy outdoor dining event takes place in a forested setting, with guests seated at long tables under string lights. A server in a black apron carries a tray through the crowd. Sunflowers decorate the tables, and sunlight filters through the trees, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.

Their partnership with Lily Flowers is just one example of the kind of values-aligned collaboration they love to pursue—and they’re actively seeking more.
