From the banks of the Derwent to the offshore energy fields of Europe, Sean Van Steel’s journey has always been powered by the sea.

Raised in Tasmania, he grew up with an instinctive connection to the water – one that has shaped both his studies and career. After graduating from the Australian Maritime College (AMC) – Australia’s national institute for maritime education, training, and research – Sean embarked on a global career in naval architecture and offshore engineering, experiences that would eventually lead him to become Engineering Director and Co-Founder of CoreMarine.

CoreMarine is a specialist marine engineering company tackling some of the world’s most complex offshore challenges. At its heart is a bold idea: that the ocean is not just a frontier, but one of humanity’s greatest sustainable resources. Sean has been at the forefront of turning that idea into reality.

Now leading the Australian branch of CoreMarine from Lutruwita / Tasmania, Sean is focused on solutions that enable industries to harness the power of the ocean responsibly. Offshore wind is a key area of expertise – a sector with the potential to transform energy generation and support the global transition to net zero. By combining digital technology, advanced simulation, and innovative engineering, his team delivers projects that push boundaries while keeping sustainability front and centre.
